If she's so sad about 'the churban' then why is she wearing a sleeveless dress? : P

HaTzair Shlomo,

Since you are clearly unable to take a hint: Your disparaging and oftentimes downright distasteful comments are not appreciated, no matter what sort of humor it is you mean to convey. It'd be appreciated if you refrained from them, or indeed, any comments where you lack a constructive point, in the future.

That is a beautiful drawing. You can really feel the emotion.

Well my apologies then, friend. I had no idea.

....it's just that the comments sections over here in the past have seemed like forums to write anything and everything that might come to mind (only a sign of the popularity of the blog!), but it seems the "lower elements" have all dropped off the bandwagon and I'm the only one left! Oh well.

...it's obviously good you're telling me something because I actually haven't sensed any "hints" (I'm not "that" sensitive). ...hm, that didn't come out quite right either..

Anyway, how is this disparaging? Many Jews would see such an outfit as a bit "off"..

For the record though, it is a pretty good sketch..

..and I AM really in the mood for pumpkin pie...

...and American food IS bad for you!

I think this is your best painting (that I've seen) to date. Keep it up!

Shlomo,
I just love it how you extend your concept of "proper" tzniut to Chana's art. Expression of feelings is not about the externals, it's about the depth of emotions (captured on canvas) from within.

Very nice work! Our of curiosity, Is it oil based paint or water color?

I'm more concerned however about the fact that you're doing this at 4:45am...when you should be sleeping....

To All,

Yes. My lady is wearing a beautiful sleeveless dress.

Reminds me of the kinnah in which Yirmia sees a beautiful woman on his way to ma'aras hamachpeila. She is weeping and disheviled, but extraordinarily beautiful - so much so that he is not sure whether she is human, sheid, or malach.

Anyhow, really cool.

So perhaps as an artist you might share with us if there was a message you were trying to share by making it sleeveless, or did you consider this detail either before or after the drawing was completed?

Joel, Chana is teaching that people who may not seem as frum as you or me are capable of deep spiritual emotions that we should respect and emulate.

אבל הנשמה עצמה, הנה לפעמים נשמת אדם גבוה לאין ק׳ בא להיות בנו של אדם נבזה ושפל כו׳

Der Alter,
Interesting - did Chana report this to you or are we taking sides in the authorial intent debate :-)

No, Chana didn't tell me this. But this is the impression I have of her.

But if I understand you correctly, it seems you are opposed to sleeveless drawings. Care to elaborate?

Der Alter,
What in my comments would lead you to that conclusion? I was simply seeking a better understanding of the artist's intent or lack thereof.
