Hello everybody!
I would like you to help me purchase a laptop, please.
Here's what it needs to have:
1. I want a PC
2. Windows XP (I absolutely loathe Windows Vista.) Or the capacity to have an older version of Microsoft Word, because I hate the Windows Vista version of Word.
3. The iTunes, Paint, Windows Media Player and other applications should work
4. It should be a relatively large screen (15, 16, maybe even 17 inches)
5. Relatively light, if possible
6. DVD player with a tray (not a slot)
7. Built-in wireless ability
I'm supposed to pick one off of Costco. Please help. I don't want an Acer and would probably prefer a Dell. Thanks.

Depending on how desperate you are...
As for your specifications
1. Obviously you still have a brain.
2.You want Word 2003, and yes it will work on Vista.
3. What computer doesn't, the question is, how much juice do you need a a computer, what do you use it for besides typing and watch idiotic movies?
4. and 5. 15" and up will not be too light, you might get something acceptable at 15" but anything bigger will defiantly be too heavy.
6. Almost all have this, and 7. Do you mean regular wifi? every computer has that, or do you want 3g with a celluar network?
You should wait till you get a computer that will be eligible to upgrade to Windows 7 when it comes out in october which would be windows vista premium, don't get vista basic. Computer purchased in the near future will be able to upgrade to Window 7 for just $10.
My other recommendation would be to buy a cheap netbook, and have two computers.
WAIT UNTIL WINDOWS 7 COMES OUT!!!
I don't get it - are you asking for recommendations or contributions? If the former, you need to tell us your budget!
Can you even purchase machines with XP on them anymore form the big box stores?
Better question--what are you going to do with your old one? Make it into a griddle for cooking eggs :)
Last time I checked (I am going to purchase a laptop for my college student child), Dell is still selling laptops which have an XP downgrade option. If you want, I can forward some specs they sent me recently.
A few months ago I purchased a Toshiba satellite that I really like you can scale up and down on them, I don't know though my last Dell was a nice machine as well.
I know I'm missing something, but I've had an Acer for about a year now and I've liked it.
So, depending on the deal you can get, I wouldn't rule an Acer out completely.
"I want a pc"
I don't think Ive ever heard those words uttered before...
