Now I Am Frustrated

Anon 4:21 from yesterday,

I took out the קונטרס משכן ישראל : על קדושת מצוות הבית... from Gottesman and have been poring over it for the last hour and a half (in addition to the other hour I spent in the library.) While it's fascinating and I've basically read the whole book of Chassan Literature by now, I can't find the Steipler's Letter (which you say is there.) Now, I believe you that it's there but I literally scanned every inch of Volume 1 and now I'm on to Volume 2 so any chance you have some idea as to where it is? It must be that I have passed over it somehow...I saw a lot of similar ideas to it, especially in Volume 1, but nothing that matched the excerpt I have.

In any case, I'm sure I'll feel very foolish when you point out that it's right in front of my nose, but I figured I might as well ask.

Why don't you ask Rabbi Dr. Rakeffet-Rothkoff?

Because Rabbi Dr. Rakeffet-Rothkoff said to look at Zivug Min Ha-Shamayim for the heart of it, which I did, and that he had the original photocopy himself (apparently in the Steipler's handwriting), which clearly I can't get. So if it is in this sefer, I want Anonymous to tell me where it is, please.

It's really not so exciting - a lot of it talks about 'mechanics'. I'll don't think you'll find it anywhere, unless you speak to a Charedi 'madrich chatanim', who is most unlikely to show it to you.

Wolf2191,

THANKS!

that's not the letter you are looking for...

Anon 9:25,

It's not? It's a pretty fascinating scan, though... - I thought I recognized the same ideas in Part 2 as were cited in this Zivug Min Ha-Shamayim book. Must go re-read. So where *is* the letter I'm looking for?

Anonymous said...

im not aware that it was ever published as part of a sefer

Anon 9:35,

Maybe we're talking about two different things? The letter Wolf2191 pointed me to is, I am pretty sure, the full scan of the letter R' Rakeffet quotes (it seems to match up to the part quoted in Drazin's book.) I'm assuming you are referring to the "small pamphlet dealing with inyonei kedushah with letters from the Chazon Ish and the Steipler, probably containing this letter, and others" which is theoretically called אגרת קודש מאת גדולי
הדור, ירושלים תשכ"ח
- thanks to the guy who emailed me and said this is what I want!- but I don't think that's what I am looking for, actually.

i believe there is a longer version of the letter linked.

Chana said...

Anon 9:50,

Yeah, I just realized there's supposed to be a longer version- because if I remember correctly the Steipler actually gives, per R' Rakeffet, 'rashei perakim to simple, sexual knowledge" which I see is not here. Apparently there's supposed to be discussion of "foreplay, chibuk, nishuk, etc." Anyway, thanks.

it was printed in a few of the numerous editions of the sefer mishkan yisrael

but every one of those ideas is quoted from other ppl throughout the sefer it is very tedious and unorganized but fascinating for the type of pp you said you are posting this for

Anon 11:40,

Yes, I read through both volumes last night- today. Utterly, utterly fascinating, chock full of awesomely interesting material. Thanks so much- really appreciated.

Why don't you ask any veteran kallah teacher? I'm pretty sure I read his letter in kallah classes, although I don't have it around anymore.
