I agree with certain things my parents did raising me, like the no-whining rule (which is also probably one of the reasons why I can't stand whiny children). However, for all their efforts, there were definitely still some mistakes that I hope not to repeat.
My parents did a great job in generally, I think. I doubt anyone here will be surprised if I choose to allow my children a little more freedom to forge their own paths in life, though, rather than forcing my own beliefs on them.
I voted B, but with a disclaimer: to be honest, I can't REALLY be sure how I'll be raising my children until I actually have them, and see what the situation is like (their personalities, etc.)
For anyone following the results, there should only be TWO for choice a. Someone informed me they accidentally voted twice and I can't figure out how to remove a vote.
There is a Far Side cartoon showing a huge virtually empty auditorium, with 4 or 5 people sitting scattered about among thousands of empty seats. Across the stage of the auditorium is a banner "Adult Children of Normal Parents". The guy 3 rows back from the front is me. :>)
I believed what my parents raised me that what i want to raise my children. They are not perfect but i wouldn't change a thing because i wouldn't be who i am today without them.
In the past four years of being a parent, I've had a good number of conversations with my parents and I've really been grateful for their advice now and for their insights. It's funny, seeing how much they actually did know and how right they were about a lot of things.
There are certainly many changes due to lifestyle, personality, 'the times' and the fact that I'm in this adventure with someone with his own set of parenting influences!
