Camps

Although the time for applying to sleepaway camps is theoretically over (since one should apply in, say, November or December) my family is still wondering about the different Jewish camps that are out there. We already know about Moshava, Sternberg, and Agudah Midwest. Do you have any camps to add? Don't hesitate because you're worried about how religious we are; we'll just take your suggestions and see whether they fit. My younger sister, who is 13, is interested....

You mean this NCSY camp for girls, right?

Actually, I'm not sure - I get confused between that and another one. I'll try to find out. Meanwhile, I know people (from all stripes of Orthodoxy) who have gotten a ton out of a bunch of the other summer programs on the NCSY site. I don't know what your budget is, though...

I could probably find out a lot more for you, though, about all of those. Let me know.

i do think blogging is the strangest thing since flavoured cream cheese, but ezzie's nudging has gotten me to post finally. (gosh, i sound like i'm signing onlysimchas!) he says we should chat. anyhoosee though, with regard to camps- unfortunately the single best camp in the universe shut down after a brief 5 years in this world. camp guila, RIP, is the NCSY-run camp to which ezzie was trying to refer. sadly, it is no more THUS leaving no options. however, i do know of lots of other great camps- including nageela, my current obsession. but no matter how great a place is, its not great 4 everyone and though i've learned a bit about you from your intruiguing (and well written) posts, i cant say much without knowing more. once again i quote the ezzie, who says we should email. you can verify with him that im not as psychotic as i sound here- give me a ring if you'd like. benchy at sbcglobal dot net. toodloos!

Remember - there are different Moshava camps - Indian Orchard, Wild Rose, Stone...each one with its own flavor.

But I've been away so long...

isn't there still a Morasha camp as well?

I have been to/worked at many Jewish summer camps (including all of the Moshavas - Wild Rose, Ennismore, and Indian Orchard)and I have been most impressed with Camp Stone. Out of all the other camps I have attended, Stone is the most fun and the most educational. The director, Yehuda, is a talmid hakham par excellence, a master educator, and a (slightly insane) camp director. I have never been to a more ruhani, more intense, more happy place in my life. I can not recommend it enough (unless you don't like that whole State of Israel thing).
